HP Lights-Out Online Configuration Utility (often referred to as HPONCFG) is a command-line tool for configuring and automating the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) management processor on ProLiant servers directly from the host operating system. It lets administrators query, export, and apply iLO settings without rebooting the server or using the iLO web interface, making it ideal for scripted deployments and large-scale management.

Key capabilities:

  • Apply XML-based configuration scripts to set or update iLO settings.
  • Manage user accounts, passwords, network parameters, directory integration, and security options.
  • Export and back up current iLO configurations for auditing or replication.
  • Reset or reinitialize iLO and retrieve status information and logs.
  • Integrate easily with automation and configuration management workflows on Windows and Linux hosts.

Typical uses include standardizing iLO configurations across fleets, rotating credentials, enabling features (with valid licenses), and streamlining remote management during provisioning and ongoing operations.
